awesome book. its about a guy named joe, and he speaks in first person. hm. come to think of it, i havent read books from boys' prespectives before. except for picture books. but not a surprise, i mean, the author is a guy. anyways. he meets a girl at a train station, named candy, and instantly falls in love with her. well, almost instantly, anyway. they start chatting away, and man, joe really likes this girl. but as he learns more and more about her, he finds out that candys life is a mixture of violence, drugs, and desperation. this isn't "a sweet little love story", as noted in the book. it was serious stuff. awesome, really. well, its weird saying that a book like this is awesome. i mean... the stuff is so serious. joe and candy get into heaps of danger, but they go through it together. candy has begged joe to leave, but he just cant stand letting her face all this alone.
i highly recommend this book. in fact, i think all teens should be required to read it. i was actually thinking that the author had done drugs before, and tried to give up. he explained everything so clearly, this whole thing was picturing in my mind. or maybe, it should be turned into a movie. yeaaahhhh thats more like it!!! the movie would be so... touching. but with all the violence and drugs, it would probably be rated R. but i would still run out and see it--- it would just be so awesome.
as i said, highly recommend. read it.
would have been 27 volounteer hours

Jess,
I am always on the look out for books from a guy's perspective.
I will recommend this one to guys or girls.
Read my reviews of two I have read. one is also a definite read.
P.s. Good job as always.
