Awake and Dreaming: Kit Pearson

i loved this book! a 4th grade girl named theo lives with her irresponsable, young, and poor mother.theo always reads books to stop herself from thinking about her own miserable life, and dreams about having a perfect family. she doesnt do well in school, but she loves the library.

her mother gets a new boyfriend and they decide to go on a trip, but not with theo. theo has to go live with her aunt, so theo's mother went on the ferry with her to get there.on the ferry, theres a weird woman who keeps staring at her. for the first time in her life, she makes friends wih a "perfect" family. soon enough, she's mysteriously adopted by the family a day later. she gets new clothes and things of her own for the first time, and has great brothers and sisters. but as months go by, she starts to fade from her family's lives, and is often unseen or forgotten. somehow, she mysteriously gets back onto the ferry with her mother- she went back in time.

was the family real, or was the whole thing a dream? would she ever see them again? who knows, she must've been awake and dreaming. teeheehee =)

i really recommend this book- it's awesome ;)

Jess - Jess;

Kit Pearson is an awesome writer.
This book is a highly recommended read.
I think she also lives in Toronto, if I remember correctly.
What a great story line!
It is nice when you can use your imagination.

My my, that brings back memories! I read this book around...6 years ago? (if not longer, my memory has a habit of playing tricks on me). Although it was wonderfully written, I have a big problem with illogical plots. I was so troubled by the fact that she was slowly fading from her own world that i was tempted to put the book down and forget about it completely!

I didn't, but i wish i had (you can tell i did not agree with the ending of the book) although it did bring up many interesting ideas.

I'm glad you read this book.

I for got to add that I think it's wonderful in the fact that she read books to excape her own life. When i read, i am usually completely absorbed in the story. Fiction is my time machine, my teleporter, my great escape. (I sense a new motto for Isabelle's month of october!).
